Professional Activities

James is the current Chair of the Colorado Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and a voting member of AILA’s national Board of Governors. He is a past chair of the Colorado Bar Association (CBA) Immigration Law Section and the AILA Colorado DMV and Social Security Administration Liaison Committee. His is a member of the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar Association (CCDBA).

James has given numerous presentations and talks on immigration-related subjects to groups and organizations including the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), the Colorado Bar Association, the Asian Pacific Development Center, and Aurora Mental Health. His recent presentations include Saving Your Client from SAVE – 2024 (AILA National Conference – Chicago), The Crimmigrationist’s Toolbox – 2024 (AILA Colorado Chapter), and Foreign Nationals & Colorado Driver Licenses – 2023 (AILA Colorado Chapter).

Federal Court Litigation

James is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, The U.S. Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. He has briefed numerous federal appeals cases and orally argued several. He briefed and argued two published cases: Lucio-Rayos v. Sessions, 875 F.3d 573 (10th 2017) and Lujan-Jimenez v. Sessions, 839 F.3d 704 (10th Cir. 2018).

Personal

Before graduating from the University of Colorado Law School in 2010, James spent ten years living and working in Japan, and he speaks Japanese. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, renovating his house, and enjoying Colorado.
